Sweepstakes Clearinghouse Sends Latest Deceptive Mailing
The latest dirt bags sending a deceptive mailing to my house is an outfit going by the name of Sweepstakes Clearinghouse with an address of 1555 Regal Row, PO Box 569600, Dallas, Texas 75356-9931.
Notice the old trick they use by showing the “To The Order Of” through the address window to make it look like a check is enclosed. That, combined with the “DEPARTMENT OF NOTIFICATIONS” and the official-looking red info box to the right is obviously designed to make the recipient think that they are the winner of some sweepstakes. That is the way they get people to open something that is otherwise going to be judged (accurately) as junk mail and tossed in the trash.![]()
The $400 vouchers they have so generously enclosed do their best to make the recipient believe they are getting a good deal on the merchandise they are trying to unload. In my opinion, however, the stuff they are selling is a bunch of low-quality, no-quality or hopelessly outdated merchandise. Let’s take a look.
As you can see, each item they are advertising has a price listed next to it in an effort to make potential buyers believe this stuff is actually worth that much. And, with your $400 voucher that you can use towards the purchase of each item, you can purchase each one of the items for the listed price minus $400. What a deal! Actually, I would be more accurate to say what a joke!
I know a little bit about digital video cameras and I have never heard of DVC brand. When one shops for something like a video camera or other electronic equipment, it’s pretty obvious that you want a well-known brand that has a reputation for quality. Brands like Sony, Canon, JVC and others that you are familiar with. The bottom line is that they are selling you a digital video camcorder/camera/MP3 player/whatever for $169 and that’s probably about what it is worth.
At least the stereo system has a name I recognize, although I certainly don’t think of RCA when I think about going out to buy high-quality stereo components myself. It may in fact be a decent system for the money. But again, that is the key. It’s probably worth the $179 they are selling it for. Not top-of-the-line by any stretch.
I really know little or nothing about watches and luggage, so at the risk of repeating myself, those items are
probably worth what you would pay for them also. I guess it is up to each consumer to decide if a cheap diamond watch is worth $169 or cheesy luggage is worth $179. I surely know what my answer is and I bet you can guess.
Now computers are another matter entirely and something I do happen to know a little bit about. Firstly, both those systems they are selling are hopelessly outdated. I have a 400-MHz PC around here that was current technology about seven or so years ago when I bought it. To be listing these systems with price tags of $699 and $679 is so ridiculous, I could nearly fall out of my chair laughing over it.
I cannot believe any retailer still has stuff like this hanging around collecting dust. The 128 MB of memory they list for both systems is a laughable amount of memory and useless for running anything better than the Windows-95 or Windows-98 they are supplying with them. I can hardly believe they are still selling systems with Windows-98, to say nothing of Windows-95!
For those who may not know what the 98 or 95 in the names Windows-98 and Windows-95 stand for, well, yes, you guessed it. The year 1998 and 1995. A 11-year-old operating system and an 8-year-old operating system. Can these people be serious?
If you have heard stories of Windows computers crashing and getting hung up all the time, these are the old, outdated operating systems that are likely being talked about. Microsoft’s current operating system of choice is Windows-XP which has been around for a number of years and is light-years ahead of Windows-98 or Windows-95!
And don’t assume you can buy one of these cheap systems and load Windows-XP on it yourself. The 128 MB of memory would be a show-stopper for Windows-XP and even if you were able to add more memory to these systems, a 300-MHz or 400-MHz system will run as slow as molasses with Windows-XP installed.
To advertise these systems with “National Reference Retail” prices like these is pure fantasy. Perhaps they are referring to the prices of systems like this about six or seven years ago and just forgot to mention that.
The 15-inch monitor for the desktop and 12-inch screen on the laptop are nothing to get excited about either. Make sure you have your reading glasses or perhaps a magnifying glass handy when you sit down to work on one of these cinematic beauties! And those hard drives! My, my, whatever will you do with all that disk space? Good luck locating a disk drive you can buy new that is less than 20GB these days!![]()
Most of the software included in their $500+ Software Package is stuff I have never heard of and it’s a pretty safe bet that it is just a bunch of old software that is no longer being sold. It’s highly unlikely that it is worth $500 these days, but perhaps this stuff was somehow lost in the mail for six or seven years and only made its way to my mailbox today. That certainly would explain a lot!
To make the deal even sweeter, the fine print reveals that the laptop is “remanufactured.” For heaven’s sake, if it’s one thing I would avoid like the plague, it would be a remanufactured laptop! I would not even buy a current model that was remanufactured due to the quirky nature of laptops compared to desktop systems. To buy a remanufactured model from an era when laptops where even less reliable and more quirky than current models would be insanity.
Heck, I have a Toshiba laptop I bought brand-new almost 2 years ago that died on me about 6 months ago. After the warranty period, of course! Since I will not attempt to work on a laptop myself, it has been sitting around until I feel that I need it bad enough to get it fixed. I fix all my desktop systems myself very easily, but with the tiny closely-packed insides of a laptop, I will not even attempt it.
Laptops have come a long way in recent years but I still believe desktop systems are a lot more reliable. My advice is that unless you really need a PC that is portable, stay away from the laptops and stick with a desktop system. I’m sure there are differing opinions out there and I speak only from my own experience.
Getting back to the utterly ridiculous prices they have endowed these two geriatric systems with, let’s take a look at what you can get for your money these days and end up with brand-new, brand-name current computer systems.
With the enclosed vouchers, you can get the desktop system for $299 and the laptop for $279.
For comparison, consider that you can get a brand-new and current-technology desktop system with the following specifications: Celeron D 2.53-GHx Processor, 256 MB memory, 80 GB hard drive, 17-inch monitor and Windows XP installed for $299.
You’re likely to pay around $400 for a low-end current laptop, but the extra $121 will be well worth it to have a new system with a current operating system like Windows XP installed on it that will run a lot faster than the antique featured in this mail-order miracle.
If the computers are any indication of the quality and value of the other products, this is not any kind of “deal” in any way, shape or form. The $400 voucher idea is just intended to make people believe they are getting something for nothing when nothing could be further from the truth.

I fell for the same “vouchers” and payed off my LAYAWAY stereo. They have
cashed all my checks for a total of $220. I have not recieved my stereo and am
very upset. How do I get my money back and report them as “thievies”? Please
help me!
Julie Roste
Sorry to hear about your difficulty with this.

Interesting idea, Dillon. I have done things like that in the past for my own amusement. Give ‘em a taste of their own medicine.

Just a note to thank you for confirming my suspicions
about the Sweepstakes Clearinghouse mailing. You have

thanks you guys,i will not buy any thing from these guys.
thanks i’ve save alot of money.
Hi guys,
Thanks for ur posting, I was excited initially it had my name printed and half a dozen award vouchers of $400 for different products. But i think if u do some research the extra cost u pay to get that item is too much and u get better quality in store.
I ordered their set of two black leather recliners with ottomans and received them in record time after the last payment was made. I love the chairs and have no problem with them. I’ve had them since October. But if anyone is not happy with a companies product or never received a purchaced item in the mail then the company should make up for their mistake. I have the telephone number for those whose wish to contact them requarding their missing items. The number is 1-214-915-7100.
I am soooo glad i checked things out. I was talking this over with my husband, and we decided to buy the camcorder. When i could’nt find the brand name, i thought i would check it out on line first. Thank you for posting all this stuff. You really saved me and my money.
Thank you so much, I as well almost fell for this scam. It is nice to know people like you are out there watching others’ backs. Thanks again.
I am glade I looked around online to look for the camcorder bc I just put $10 in to the lay-a-way thing. Well thanks and I will now block the dumb emails I keep getting.
Sweepstakes Clearinghouse is a huge ripoff and scam artist company. I laugh everytime I get their mailings and just pitch them in the trash. I have done my investigative work on them and they, to say the least, have been sued by the State of Iowa for falsely directing people. I suggest you try and contact them by phone to work out issues. If not, contact the Better Business Bureau in Dallas TX. (Address and info below).

I just want to say Thank you everyone for your input because I just put $10 in for the 6 pcs bedroom set and it was supposed to be $189 but when I got the bill it was almost $400 and I knew that couldn’t be right thank goodness I checked it out. I really saved some money. Thanks.
Thank you so much guys! I just got that JUNK today. At first I though, “WOAH, someone sent me money…!” It seemed too good to be true and I knew there had to be a catch. I still didn’t want to extra money along with their “voucher” for something I didn’t really want in the first place. I had never heard of half the stuff and I wasn’t all that impressed with the other things. I thought if I did buy some of this crap on “sale”, I could turn around and sell it on Ebay or something still in the box. My mom suggested that it might be a scam, and she was right! As soon as I finished reading this webpage, I shredded and burned the junk. Thank you guys so much!
I was so happy when I received my vouchers in the mail! I called my son right away and we were planning on buying the laptop and camera for my daughter-in-laws birthday. The only thing I was concerned about was, there was no phone number or web address in the paperwork. I wasn’t comfortable sending my signature to an unknown party. We were going to pay for everything in full, but it seemed “not right” to me. We tell our children from a very early age, if you feel that something isn’t right, it usually isn’t and it’s time to leave the situation. I beleive we all have that instinct. We know right from wrong, but we want to wish it’s true. That’s not the way the real world works and we all know it. The temptation of getting something for next to nothing is very desirable, we’re not stupid, they’re just evil. I’m saving all my vouchers and am looking into reporting whomever to the authorities.
Recently receivrd the sweepstakes clearinghouse from Dallas Tx. ThE 400.00 DOLLAR VOUCHERS. Somehow i decided to check them out on the internet. Almost bought the computer luckly something lead me here. These are going in the trash. thanks p.benge
Just wanted to say thank you to the admin. I got the vouchers in the mail today as well….and felt a little suspicious about it all. It does seem a little too good to be true. I too noticed that there was no contact information….no phone numbers or web address.. I live in Tennessee…….and this is about the 4th time that this Clearinghouse has sent me things. I had a little extra money and thought that I would check it out. I put the name into the search on my home page and you were the number one pick!!! Top of the page!! thank you so much for all of your input and again thank you Admin! Im not exactly sure what to do about it…..to stop these people…..but I think you are working on a good start! And remember BEWARE of Scammers!! Thier everywhere!!!! This is the 3rd time this year that people have had tried to scam me……..God Bless you All
just recieved socalled reciever verification papers for 1,900,000.00 cash and awards , from american prize reports. there is no email adress or phone number on certificate.return envelope is adressed to sweepstakes clearinghouse 1555 regal row, dallas texas.I must send 19.99 to be elligable. when I tried to pull them up on internet it sent me straight to this web sight . thanks for all this info on this scam company. We will be turning this over to the better business bureau in dallas
I received the sweepstakes clearinghouse coupons in the mail and I was interested in getting the dvd home theater system. It seemed to be a good deal but when I saw that there were no contact infornmation on the package that gave me the red flag. I went to to internet and looked some things up and to my surprise I found that every one was being scamed, so I thank you guys for setting this web site for people to check out because I sure was going to order me something. I beleive I will just stick to fingerhut companies that you know are real. Again thank you.
I too got this in the mail today and came directly to the net for verification. I think we should all fill the return envelope with ripped up junk mail (minus any account numbers of creit card offers of course) and stick it in the mail to them. Each time someone uses a postage pain envelope the company has to pay for it.
One way to get back at them.
I know what I’m sending tomorrow. (Maybe a couple handfuls of my shedder dumpings.)
I ordered one of their Nostalgia stereo systems. The CD player and tape recorder were both unusable. The digital camera malfunctioned. An advertised cd/tape player was only a tape player, with no cd. None of the items were worth the price paid for them.
Hey! DUde, you just saved my ass! I got this very same trash in my mailbox yesterday. I’ve never recieved this kind of thing before, so aty first, I was like “There has to be some kind of mistake”..but then I remembered that I had filled out a survey or two one about winning a laptop or soemthing..Wellll..I got this in the mail and thought it had somethign to do with it. I’ve heard of scams, but never thought for a moment that I could be pulled in by one. I must honestly say that when I found no contact information of any kind, I was skeptical. So, I got on the internet this morning and reverse-searched the address. I’m thinking about letting my local news station in on this and directing them to your little page here so that they will have more information. the News station (News Channel 2) has a thing going where you notify them of scams, and they let people know about it on the news.
Again, I cannot thank you enough. Your site has provided the information that I needed and now I know for a fact that I have yet to be fooled by a scam. Thank you.
I’ve been ordering items from Sweepstakes Clearinghouse for over 10 years and have loved every item without any problems aside from normal wear and tear. I ordered a stereo system and four luggage sets (5-7 pieces for $100) over the years and have more that got my money’s worth out of them. I really love the luggage pieces which I find to be very durable and cute.
Granted some items look cheap so the bottom is to know what you’re buying and do comparison shopping. Not all off brands are bad but research is a MUST!!!
Good luck!!
Thanks for the valuable in depth information. It’s obvious you took a lot of time and effort into posting it. I went on the internet to check it out, and was directed to your website. I knew it had to be too good to be true. Keep up the great work!
Well “Babygirl” certainly sheds some light on how these outfits stay in business and have the cash to flood our mailboxes with their crap. Some people actually buy the stuff being peddled by these idiots!
I’m certainly not saying people don’t have a right to buy what they want, but this may be interesting for anyone who might have been wondering how these outfits stay in business year after year.
I fell for this scam like a good little schnook, but I covered myself to some extent by using USPS money orders. I figure these guys are now on the hook for using the US mails to promote their scam. I’ll give them a chance to refund my money, then it’s up to the Dallas BBB and the Feds to deal with them. I can prove all the actions I have taken with these people - and the money involved.
Save your money and apply toward something more worthwhile. This is indeed a
rip off. I am embarrassed to say that I spent several hundred dollars with these crooks before I thougt to read others report. The laptop looks like a heavy tool
box that has been spay painted. I will never leave home with that piece of junk to show
off to anyone..
Do not waste your money on any thing these people sell.
Wow! Thank God I decided to check out sweepstakes Clearinghouse. I had everything ready to mail. Then I thought it wouldn’t hurt to look up info on them. After realizing that no phone number was listed, I was somewhat scared to follow through and mail my voucher and check. I’ll mail them back with very heavy paper and a couple of pennies. More weight, more money for postage they have to pay.
Thanks to all of those who commented…I received my materials from Clearinghouse Sweepstakes and almost fell for it….until I visited this website. THANKS, over and over!!!
My77-year-old mother received the vouchers from these people and was totally convinced they were a gift from Publisher’s Clearing House. I know better and have gotten this kind of scam before. I used this site to show her they are not associated with PCH and are predators ready to take her money and send her junk.
Thanks for being here!
I JUST GOT THIS JUNK AND THANKS TO THE INTERNET I WILL BE KEEPING MI MONEY SAFE IN THE BANK.
I am a retired widow from New Jersey. I didn’t even think to look on the Internet concerning this company. I sent them $100 dollars because I thought I was getting a deal. It has been a month now and I haven’t heard anything. So much for MY deal. The funny or not so funny thing is I consulted my daughter. She had laid away a leather couch from them and had no problems what-so-ever. I guess they have to put salve on them selves every once in a while. I learned a costly lesson, one that will be with me all the rest of my days. LOOK CAREFULLY AT WHERE YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR MONEY
I received my vouchers and sent them a check for 450.00 for the laptop and camcorder, got to looking for their address and found the ripoffs. I went to the bank and they had not cashed their check and I put a stop payment on it so they are not getting my money. Just wanted to say thanks
Good for you for taking the time to maintain a site like this. Today I got a mailing from Sweepstakes Clearinghouse. It said that the six enclosed credit vouchers were my consolation prize in theTen Million Dollar Sweepstakes Giveaway –curious because also in today’s mail was an entry from Publishers Clearinghouse for which NO purchase was necessary to win.
I’m fairly saavy about most of the items Sweepstakes Clearinghouse is trying to sell me and knew immediately the merchandise was either out-of-date, i.e., very old versions probably from leftover clearance stocks; or, at least in my estimation, not worth their purchase prices. But out of curiosity, I googled the company and found this site. Again, I think it is very nice of you to have taken the time to post all this info. Kudos! And I’m going to turn in my Sweepstakes Clearinghouse mail to my local post office because I’m wondering if it violates any Ohio laws.
I was vsery upset with the produts that I purchased from sweepstakes clearinghouse. The items were cheap inexpensive from the price I paid them. They sent me a computer that was out ofdate. The computer was old as my grandmother. They charged me already to shipped the computer to me then I had to pay shipping charges just to send it back to them. These people are nothing but a big time rip-off. I will never order anything else from their company again. They are ripping people off everyday with that junk they are selling.
THank you so much for all these comments, they have saved me from making the same mistake some of you did, only I do not have the money to just piss away. I thought it was too good to be true also, so I checked into it and this is the site I chose first, although there is many others. This kind of crap needs to be stopped! Most of us single mothers do not have the money to just throw away and I am so glad I did not. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!
Carrie
WOW!!! This info was found a little too late for my Mom & me.We’ve been sending payments in to this company for the last 3 months for a camcorder and a computer.Though it’s $$$ lost already I’m all too happy to have found out about this site before we make complete payout. Thank you, thank you for such a site. these theiving pigs need to be brought to justice and prosecuted.I will continue to pass this on to my friends/family members to [revent them from becoming a victim of scam. Again, THANX
HA! I am so flippin’ glad that I decided to do some research before sending in any checks to this company! I really need a computer but I just had a feeling that this deal was too good to be true and of course, it is!
Don’t do it! Don’t send them any money! Don’t take that chance! Go to Best Buy!
I ordered a wstun gun from them for 38 dollars, and have not heard from them. Is there anyway to contact them? I cannot find a phonenumber or e-mail address. I also have some items in layaway. Thanks to you, I will not send them any more money.
I received this offer in the mail and was considering getting the laptop computer. I am so glad that I decided to get on the Internet and see if this contest was legit before I sent them any money. I just started college and thought that this computer would be a good way to help me get through school. I am so glad I did not send these people any of my hard earned money.
I figured it was a scam because they did not have a number to contact them or an e-mail address.
Ok look, i just recieved those vouchers and i noticed a few things that a lot of people should have payed attention to.For example, i can’t find a phone number on any of the documents sent to me and if you’ve ever purchased anything in your life you would know that in case such an issue occurs you should always have the ability to contact your provider emediately, whether speaking on the phone or in person. If the only way i can speak with my provider is through the mail then they have the upper hand don’t they.Well i guess all i can say is that i’m sorry for all the trouble and if you don’t want it to happen again pay attention to detail they might be trying to take your car, your, house, and maybe even your ability to take care of your children.
Almost fell for it. Thanks you guys! I thought it was PCH too and I’m 31 not 77. My wife and I had a check written for 149.95 to get a “DVC” Digital Camcorder package.
i received the vouchers from sweepstake clearinghouse a few months ago and ordered a desktop computer from them, it worked good for about 3 months then the monitor quit working on it,so i had to get a new moitor for it whitch cost 300 more,i dont have a lot of money ,i tried to get ahold of them about it,but didnt have the number to call,i hope you catch these scammers.thanks
Just a friendly advice. Never do business with a company that does not have its complete address and phone number(s) on its mail envelopes. Also check Ripoff Report (www.ripoffreport.com) to find out if the company has complaints so far. Thanks and good luck.
Wow, I am so sorry about all the bad luck people have had with sweepstakes clearing house. I have been using them for years. I purchased my 1st computer from them. Yes I did have to add microsoft word, but it got me through college. I have bought 2 stereo systems over the course of 10 years, that still work. Not many places you can get a record player, lol, cd player and tape player, radio all in one.
2 sets of luggage, and jewelry. Yes, the items may only be worth the amount without the vouchers, but so what? You get what you pay for and I’ve had no problems. The representatives have been helpful and very courteous. Need numbers? 1-214-915-7100 AND there is also a 1-800 number. 1-800-762-3302. Good Buck.
Ah, the type of comment I just cannot resist.
I don’t know whether you are working for “Sweepstakes Clearing House” or are just seriously technologically challenged.
The facts of my original post on this subject remain. The computer they were offering was a ridiculously high-priced for a system that was a technological dinosaur. It wasn’t anything remotely resembling a good deal.
Your comment explains very nicely how these people make money and stay in business. Thanks for sharing that with us!
(WOW)I was about to drop in the mail six credit vouchers a lone with a check .I just said to my self this cant be right,so u guessd it. I check this sweepstakes clearinghouse 1555 Regal ROW PO BOX 569600 DALLAS TX 75356-9931 IS AFTER YOUR MONEY FOR SURE.I could not even locate a telephone number for questions and when you win something you win ,you dont pay anything they dont even have a e-email address for you to contact them, So i can put my money for good use,so people if u got mail from sweepstakes clearinghouse 1555 Regal ROW PO BOX 569600 DALLAS TX 75356-9931 .drop it in the garbabge can,SO i will be glady to pass this along to people in my sisde of town and post i this information.Gee thanks for your site. West Virginia Girl.
today my wife told me to look up this digital camera she had been paying on. to get a long story short she received this voucher telling her if she payed 27.38 on the camera she would receive it. she has payed a 100 so far. I asked how much more she was suppose to pay she told me about 80. so i got to wondering why they would do that and asked for the voucher no number or internet address and the camera i cant even find it online. from what i have found out company is in trouble and could be shutting down soon. so these vouchers are their way of getting as much as they can. i wish wife would have told me about camera. it was suppose to be a gift. thanks for the info on site. thought i would share lastest ploy.
BOUGHT A DIGATIL CAMERA AND WEB CAM. THOUGHT GETTING A GREAT DEAL. SO I RETURNED MY OTHER ONES. BIG SUPRISE DON’T WORK. JUST A BIG SCAM. BIG MISTAKE. BECAREFUL BEFORE YOU BUY. YOU KNOW BUYER BEWARE. CRANE INDIANA
Thanks for the reality light you shed on this company. I got my check vouhers for the comps & had an adrenaline rush. On a fixed income, using an outdated laptop, I thought I was finally getting my chance. Common sense told me to research the company before sacrificing my limited pocket change. After reading the short comments on Rip Off I was pretty much turning my back on the whole scenario, but there was still some wishful thinking tell me to give them a chance. Your sight was the last I clicked on & thank The Lord. The extensive details, reasoning, & responses are what finally made me turn the switch on in my brain. Ideal is not always smart. Thanks
You know, I got this in the mail today and I was so excited, because I Have been wanting a laptop…… and I am the type of person that jumps on a great deal……. as i almost did with this one…… but when I read this I notice that there was no phone number……. usually when there is no phone number there is a reason they do not want you to call them…. and clearly in this case its because they want to rip you off……….so i decided to jump on my computer and see if i could find a number to call and get more info about this whole “DEAL” but when I typed in there name this website is one of the first things to pop up…….. and boy am i glad that i found it because you guys just allowed me to have one less headache……… Thanks
~ashley~
Thank God for the Internet and people taking the time to expose these scams. I guess not much changes for the consumer. Buyers still have to beware of everything that looks to good to be true.
I was ready to mail back this sweepstakes claim when something told me to check it out on the internet. SO GLAD I DID!! Thanks………..I’ll not sending anything back.
Almost mistook this company for “Publisher’s Clearing House” !! I tried to do some research on the “prizes” shown and I could not find any information on the brands listed (Ultralite Luggage, DVC Camcorder). So then I noticed it said “Sweepstakes Clearinghouse” and decided to give a look into them. And then I came to this site…
Thankyou!
I ordered an air conditioner. I got the air conditioner but when it came they charged me for the shipping charte o $61.20 where their was no place where it said I would be charged shipping. They said it was on the back of the paper. I got another paper in the mail and it is exactly the same and their is still no places that has their is a shipping charge.
You’d think at my age I’d have learned by now, if it sounds too goo to be true it probably is. I was just getting ready to send my order off for my kids’ Christmas gifts. One wanted the stereo and the other the desktop computer. I just had a bad feeling about putting my credit card info on those vouchers so decided to check out the internet to see if I could find info on the business. So glad I came across your web site. I am 51 yrs old, my husband passed away 3 months ago. I have no income, he did not want me to work, I take care of my 1 yr old grandson 24/7. I just can’t get it through my head that you can’t trust people anymore. I get ripped off more times than I like to admit just because I feel if people can trust me, I should be able to trust them too. NOT!!!! Anyway thanks so much.
I fell for the scamm I think we should take them to the cleaners, how can the government let them get away with this……….
Yeah, my mother almost fell for it also. Lucky I googled it, and read a few bad reports, and told her ‘too good to be true’. After I informed her, I found your site, and sent the link to her also. Good god, how could places such as this still remain in business. Iowa fined them 90,000 and told to improve there relations with customers. LOL
my friend wanted to buy some of that junk . thank god we came across this site and now we are sure that its a scam. we are thinking of ways to try to scam them.
lets play scam the scammer LOL
I sent out a check a week ago for $309.85. When it hadn’t cleared today I searched online for the company name and found this site. I immediatley requested a stop payment on the check, emailed my bank, and the Dallas BBB office. Thank you.
Tuesday, August 21, 2007
I read your emails about the scams and I read many more about this company from Dallas, concerning the sweepstakes. I received a voucher from them and I decided not to send them any money but to check them out. After I went online and could not find not even a website but only compaints online. I knew that my gut insticnts were right that this is indeed a ripoff. I wondered if you all contacted the Better Business Bureau in Dallax or the Federal Trade Commission. Here is BBB’s number and the Dallas Attorney General’s number. They can’t do anything if people don’t report it.
If you have lost money to a gifting scheme, contact your local police department or the Attorney General’s office in your state. In Texas, contact the Consumer Protection Division of the Texas Attorney General. Call 214-969-5310 in Dallas or 1-800-337-3928 in Texas, or go online to http://www.oag.state.tx.us.
To contact the BBB serving Dallas and Northeast Texas, visit http://www.dallas.bbb.org. Or call 214-220-2000, or in surrounding areas call 1-800-705-3994. The address is: BBB, 2001 Bryan St., Suite 3850, Dallas, TX 75201. The fax is 214-740-0321.
AUGUST 25,2007 I RECIEVED SOME OF THOSE VOUCHERS OVER THE YEARS BUT I NEVER SNET ANYTHING LUCKILY BUT ANY WAY IT CAME OUT OF THE BLUE AND I BEEN WANTING A LAP TOP SO I SAID TO MYSELF LET ME LOOK ONLINE FOR THE COMPANY AND BEHOLD I DID IT HAD SOME RIP OFF REPORTS ABOUT PEOPLE NOT RECIEVING THERE MERCHANDISE AND SOME HOW I LANDED ON THIS SITE AND READ SOME OF THE STORIES AND IT HELPED ME MAKE A DECISION IM NOT SENDING THEM ANYTHING UNLESS THEY SEND IT OUT FIRST AND MAYBE I MIGHT MAKE A PAYMENT AND THEN BALE ON THEM LOL
Thank You so much! I’m taking care of a dying man and he got the vouchers and was going to send off for the Desktop Computer He was really excited about this! I took the papers to a friend who works on computers for a living and he told us that it was not worth two cents! Thank You for helping me save his money!
I just love hearing stuff like that.
Thanks for sharing it, Kathy!
But dosent Sweepstakes Clearing house have a website?
and they show rules and junk to enter….?
I just tried to check it out today….(it came in the mail)
so i msn-ed it and found a site i think its
http://www. sweepstakesclearinghouse.com
(Admin Comment: You’ll have to type in the above web site if you want to visit it. I do not want an active like pointing to those weasles. - Dale)
I too received the vouchers in the mail and have been paying on two different items through their layaway program. I received a bill for the two items and sent in my payment but have not received any more bills from them. I have sent them emails asking why but have never got a response back from them at all. This business is a scam and I will never do business with them again. Thanks for opening my eyes and letting me see how they are before I spend too much money with them. Thank you for opening my eyes!!!!!!!!!!
i am so glad i decided to use my brain and research this a**holes. they should feel ashamed of themselves. they shouldn’t be allowed to this to people.
I have received mailings over the years and actually ordered from them. I used the lay-a-way plan tho and made the payments. Once paid in full my stuff was sent to me as shipping and handling being cahrged on delivery. I think maybe they aen’t as bad as some think. I had no problems personally.
86.
What is it about me that keeps these vouchers — gets ready to send the money — and then decides to check them out on the internet.
It has been said before to you guys but “THANKS FOR THE WARNING!!!”
I was fooled — and have been fooled — into thinking that these guys were part of the PUBLISHER’S CLEARINGHOUSE and that’s probably one of the sources where they get their names. Maybe SC buys it from PCH.
Dang and I needed a decent camera too.
My husband just handed me my mail and it was from Sweepstake Clearinhouse. I told myself “I win something”lol I thought it was from PCH. I then told my husband that I wanted to buy the DVC. The first word that came out from his mouth was SCAM!!!! hahaha. Since you can’t trust anyone today, I checked it out and oh my God it is. After reading all the comments I decided to send them back their Voucher in their self address envelopes and put rocks in it. Or…. my baby’s dirty diaper hmmmm, just kidding.
This is the second scam in the past 2 months that I have received. First, it was $60,000 that I won from a “drawing from phone numbers” and now this Sweepstakes Clearinghouse thing. RIDICULOUS!!!
I just wish I could win something for real
Buyer beware–I don’t usually respond to direct mailings unless I recognize the company name, but I really wanted the RCA stereo system to replace my decades-old rack. OK, so a technophile I am not. Anyway, I send off a check in the amount of $179.95 as requested in the mailing. A few weeks later the UPS man comes to my door telling me this company has sent me packages on COD–I need to pay him over $70 in order to get the merchandise for which I already paid. I just can’t wait to find out if this will ever be resolved or how long it will take for that matter.
I recieved my lucky sweepstakes packet! Sent for the Ultra light luggage set has been over a month, never recieved it. What a surprise. Wish I had found your web site sooner.
i was going to buy the desktop laptop and camcorder the first week of november i’m so glad i looked into it.
An absolute scam !!! products are deliverd to your residence with unbelieveable c.o.d. charges!!!
November 02 2007 at 12;45pm
Yeah, I recived my consolation prize notification today. With the same $400 checks toward a prize you still have to pay for. “I wonder how many millions they take from people.” It’s so bad. Everyone sends money and who does this go to. No one gets anything. Just the feeling they have been scamed. Is there not laws against this false notifcation? Can’t the federal post office put a stop to the sending out of clearing house mailings?
i just paid off my lay away and got my dishwasher but the conconter broke
Thanks… These scum bags just sent one of these mailers to my 8 year old daughter.
I ordered a digital camera a couple of years ago and paid for it and it had a one year warrantee on it. I really liked it and used it a lot. It took good pictures and worked good too. The phone number is 214-915-7100. Yvonne
I have read every single comment on this page to date. I simply cannot tolerate the people who say they cannot find tel.numbers for SC. I have found 6 phone numbers ( 800-443-1284, 800-731-6396,
800-762-3302, 214-915-7317, 314-915-7100, 214-630-5300 ) and a supposed e-mail address ( http://www.sweepstakesclearinghouse.com ?? )but I haven’t checked it out yet.
Don’t start thinking I’m defending these S.O.B’s, because I’m not. I was also going to order the DVC digital camcorder, that is untill I started researching the company. It is also my wish to put them out of business.
Some people say they thought they were going to get a NEW computer, only to recieve an outdated piece of junk. Well the advertisement
( if you bother to READ it instead of just looking at the pictures and sending your money ) CLEARLY states ” REMANUFACTURED or REFURBISHED “.
One more thing about the computers. Sweepstakes clearing house’ ad in the description gives ” operating system ” as WINDOWS XP. However all the reports I’VE read stated they came with WINDOWS 95 or WINDOWS 98, which are both obsolete these days.
You know the authorities put MARTHA STEWART in jail for something similar to this, so WHY DO THESE PEOPLE CONTINUE TO GET AWAY WITH THIS OBVIOUS SPOOF. All their executives should be behind bars for at least 10 years, No house arrest like MARTHA STEWART got.
Also ADMIN, I just checked out their website. It states THIS ” SWEEPSTAKES CLEARINGHOUSE participants have enjoyed top quality name brand merchandise for many years. Famous brand names you know and trust. ”
Well the only Name Brand I recognized was RCA, the sterio system, but complaints I’ve read even said THAT was crapola.
SC says they have been in business for over 2 DECADES. 20 YEARS ????
They have been getting away with peoples money for 20 years now. How and when is somebody going to put a STOP to this MADNESS !!!!!
I had just received the sweepstakes clearinghouse vouchers. was going to go far the laptop and then I saw that there was no 800 number so I searched the internet about these people and thought that I would call ed a friend of my about this, and he warned me not to send any money or use the lay away plan because I will not receive my product. Sites like this one need to be one of the first one they see in the search engines.
Jeffrey of California
I just got the $400 vouchers on mail. Thank you for saving me from this scam. This people need to be stopped!
Hey guys, i just received the sweepstakes clearinghouse vouchers.I was very excited and gonna pay for all the items. However, i decided first to do my search on the internet to check if the award was for real. Fortunately, i did read your valuable comments on this deceptive mailing. Thanks, you saved me, guys.
Thanks a lot I got my $400. Vouchers today and was about to order but checked the internet first. Thanks to folks like you i saved my money Keep up the good work
Oh gee, I had no idea that you have been hurt by what happened in the past with this company. I recall that when I first got this mailing when I was younger and still in Rolla, I sent for the luggage that I wanted but some time later, I stopped paying because I was getting tired of paying so long and decided to stop the payments and thought I would get these back but I did not that is what I can recall. Much later on, I got back with this Texan company and began paying for these products that I thought I would like to have. Well, they do have phone number which is a little sort of yellow or green colored paper card which came with the first bill statement. I was frankly surprised to get a late payment notice telling me that I should pay so I did that so I woulld not lose the product that I wanted. As for the shipping charges, well what can I say? All I know is that you are bitter at this Texan company. You NEED TO FORGIVE them and yourselves so you can get on with your lives and it is likely that they are feeling the punch so to speak because of what happened in the past. I know that they do have customer service, through. They were a bit helpful and I think I told them that I had never recieved my refund back but I am not entirely sure. Anyway, I have recieved some products that I really never thought I would get and they sure came in slightly damaged box but the dishwasher too big for the kitchen counter and they look good. I ordered a lambskin jacket which I must admit that it looks good but it does need just a wee bit of sewing if you know what to look for. I even got a Toshia VCR and DVD combo. It still works! That is because God knows that I do not relish being ah how shall I say, taken avanagte of just because I am innocent in this matter. Today, I was looking up for the fireplaces and thought of what this Texan company have. They do have two ventless and smokeless fireplaces and even a oil heater, I think. I looked down these links and noted that you were down the last one of the first page of the Google and noted some grumbling so I thought I would check yours out to see why. Well, frnakly I don’t know what else to say expect that I am still going to check the Texan company website once again and boy, I simply can’t believe that you are in pain because of what happened in the past! It sure makes me think that we need to stop being bitter and then once we have let this heavy burden go, we do feel very much better afterwards. Of course, God will deal with anyone who have been doing bad stuff such as making us believe something is real but it is not so because I did exp that when I got these vouchers at first. Oh well, one more thing is that God really does pay attention to what is happening and still loves us anyway!
I am truly sorry you all had such bad experiences with Sweepstakes Clearinghouse. 2 to 3 years ago, I myself got 3 really great computers from them with Windows XP Home SP2, that were built systems with no OEM bios or other junk loaded on the systems like OEM products, such as; HP, Dell, Acer, and many other companies. These computers were cheaper than brand name computers and offer more upgradeability, you can even upgrade the motherboard easily. I had only had one problem and it was that 2 of the computers came with Philips 17″ Monitors like advertised but the other only came with a Philips 15″ Monitor. I am a computer technician and to be honest I couldn’t have built a computer like these as cheaply as I got them… FYI… I still have the 3 computers and have upgraded them all to keep up with the computer technology. I just thought people should know that not everything from this company is a joke or a rip off ‘if’ you know your products and research before you buy.
I have received these same vouchers. I did do research on the digital camera, but was unable to find any information on DVC. I was trying to compare prices. Still, not listening to my inner voice and wanted the camera desperatly, I sent my $10.00 in to start my layway. This was in November, it is now the end of December and I have yet to receive a bill, and I didn’t keep any of the infomation. So I tried to find them on the internet, because I knew who I wrote the check out to. The other wierd thing is when they cashed my check it was done electronically and I was unable to obtain any info from the bank on them, because of that. I tried to google SC, but I guess I put it in wrong and came up with PCH. So I e-mailed PCH and I was informed that it was not them and they gave me the phone number I needed to call. So I decided to try and find them on the internet again! And this site is what I came across.
I just want to say Thank you! I’ve only lost out on $10.00 it could have been worse!! Please people make sure you do your research thoughly. I will not be sending anymore money to these people!!
What a shame. The letter I received really had me fooled. It stated that these vouchers are my “consolation prize for the 10 Million Dollar Sweepstakes Clearinghouse Giveaway”. The only sweepstakes I entered this year was the Publishers Clearinghouse. I do believe they are giving or selling SC our information. Shame on them. I never would have sent money without doing my research first. I couldn’t find any valid info on the “DVC” brand camcorder, but figured I could do some comparison shopping and was hoping it was going to work out. Thank goodness I came across this website. Thanks for the info, They won’t be fooling me again.
Yea i knew it was a ripoff right off hand with the vouchers, then i looked at the laptop, 10 gb hdd, YEA that MIGHT hold my music, lol its funny cuz im only running 120gb hdd right now and its 92% full … that sucks
This is shocking. I bought, dinett, cookware, and china there and received each one of them.
At first i was like sweet because i need a laptop for college. I thought my luck was looking up for once be cause i have the worst luck in the world. I heard about scams b4 so i was like i wonder if i Google there address wut will come up and to my surprise i found this website and I’ve read every single post i also called there “number” and you can’t talk to anyone it’s all automated . Well thanx big time dude
i myself paid for a computer a year ago and did not revied my computer yet they have been sending me mail to buy something eles
if i did not call them today i still wood not get mail back for my computer now they want me to pay a 1$ a day all i want is my money back asap and they want to take 1 a day for something thats already pay for. someone need to stop them now this is not rigth
I just send 20.00 dollars to start my layway plan for the camcorder and stereo system (2/13/08),and was planing on sending the rest of the amount on 2/28/08,but thanks to people like you all i’m not sending them another penny.I kind of had a feeling it was to good to be true……THANK YOU ALL FOR LETTING ME NOW THAT ITS JUST A BIG SCAM,AND I HOPE THEY GET CAUGHT AND GET PUT IN JAIL WHERE THEY BELONG.
i got a computer in layway. and i dont want it. do you think i can get my money back???
That’s a tough question, Jenny. I would find it hard to be optimistic about getting your money back in light of what some other comments have stated here.
It may be worth a try since you have nothing to lose.
Thank you for the warning ! We were almost duped in this one but after the last time of recieving a check for $3,800 from another Scam company,i’ve become aware of “if it’s too good to be true it probably is” concept. They have some personal info on this stuff why can’t a they be tracked down? Is there anyone to monitor all this and prosecute?
these people are criminal they need to be sent to jail
Thank you so very much my 87 year old dad had his check book in hand when he got this “lovely” piece of “junk” he’s been gambling for many years and whan he seen the clearinghouse seal through the window he thought FINALLY… i won something, but it looked like very poor quality merchandise so i looked to the internet to see if such place exsisted not to mention they have no website,go figure such a “big wonderful company”.Anyway thanks from me and my dad.
sweepstakes clearinghouse does have a website. it’s sweepstakesclearinghouse.com they do have a number and an adress. but it totally is a scam. the funny thing is that about 15 % of the people that respond to these adds do get the product and have no problems but the other 85% get completly screwed. I was resaerching the company because a 42 inch toshiba flatscreen hd tv for 800 bucks isn’t a bad lay a way deal if you don’t have the money. I just wanted to figure out when I could actually get the item. but thanks to this site and many others I am ripping my 6 400 dollars credit vouchers so I can put them in their prepaid envolope and laugh about it
i have purchased the rca stereo and havent even taken it out of the box yet and i also have purchased the computer which i havent received yet but plan on refusing when it arrives.wish i look @ this sooner thanks for all the info
My nearly eighty year old parents well at least my Father almost fell for this, what else can one call it but deceptive if not out right FRAUD!
Why the USPS Post Master General’s Office, and or the Federal Trade Commission doesn’t get off their backsides and go after these companies is beyond me.
Iam sending all of such garbage after I make copies of them to the ftc, fbi, usps, and Congressional Reps.
I know they will be ignored still one has to do something.
Also I wonder why the computer brand names, and software brand names, etc aren’t speaking up maybe a letter or two to them also.
all the best to honest, hardworking folks
Steven
I have bought a few items from these guys and I have never had a problem with them. My 3 CD RCA Stereo worked like a dream and I had it for many years up until my kids broke it and it was my kids, not a defect. I also have gotten a luggage set that is wonderful and another stereo. My sister also has gotten a stereo from them and she has not had any problems. I am not saying that you and many others haven’t had problems. I am just saying I have bought from them and I am one of their satisfied customers.
Omg i just recieved the same thing in the mail this morning and went ahead and opened the letter just to take a look. I felt something was “fishy” about it so i went ahead and looked up some info about the company and come to find out, its a low-down scam just as a thought! Sigh… People that try to take people like “us” for stupid really pisses me off you know? lol Anyways, im glad i didnt fall for it and i just would like to say thank you so much, i really appreciate you spreading the word about these morons. Two Thumbs up! ^^
Yeah, I got 6 400 dollar vouchers in the Mail yesterday!
I was shocked, and happy, because I seen the laptop and I needed one.
But, I had my doubts all along!! I knew there was something fishy about it, they didnt have any contact information or anything.
So, I went online and typed in sweepstakes clearinghouse in google and it showed the website for them. So, I clicked on it, and it looked like a kid did their webpage, so that got me VERY doubtful, and I looked on the Contact us Link, and it had a number, but not a 1800 number. Usually bussiness’s have 1800 numbers.. So I searched their name into google again to see if anyone has made a Forum or anything to see if it was a scam, and I cam across this!!
Thank you so much, I would never send money in the mail to someone, when I didnt sign anything online for them, I didn’t know how they knew my First, and last name, or my Address… I mean, what the hell!!!
These people are Assholes!!
How could somebody do that to someone?
So to my other message..
I just ripped up ALL of my vouchers, put them in the envelope, and I am going to write on a piece of paper saying ” FUCK YOU, SCAMMING FUCKERS! GO ROTE IN HELL YOU PIECES OF SHITS!!”
I sound like I have tourets hahaha!!
And, I will send messages on a daily basis to these guys, Being the royalest bitch in the world!! They are not going to fuck with me and get away with it, and seeings how I live in Maine, and they are in Texas, I can’t find out where they are… Trust me, If I could find them I would fucking smash them all!!
i think everyone should join forces and sue bill gates for all of these kind od mess’s that he has caused.
Thank you, I am glad that I check this before become another victim. I got the coupon from SC and almost send them a cheque. How did they have my address? Why can’t gov. do something to stop them?
Thank you,
Ok, Here’s what you do… just send these guys back their own vouchers but on the envelope put their address as the delivery and return address with NO postage. The post office will deliver it to them and make them pay the postage for it. They most likely will, thinking it’s someone sending them money for their crap! We will nickel and dime them out of business!!! HAHAHAHA!!!!
Thanks alot. I was going to send out for the lap top on Monday. I knew this was too good to be true. Everyone read the fine print. You’ll get caught up just like I almost did. Thanks alot
Thanks for your input!! I had misgivings about this offer…it was too good to be true and now my worries have been confirmed and I realize that this was all a scam! I mean, how many people will send in their money and when they get the “below standard” items, will still not get back a full refund since you have to pay “shipping and handling”! Thanks again!!
man, I owe you a big one, my mom got this offer and I’ve been trying to talk her in to it, but she’s smarter than me. went online, found your article… I’m tearing these things up right now. I should have known better because I have computer experience, too. Thanks, man.
You are quite welcome.
That’s why I do this.
I have looked into this and it is strange that FL and NY cannot sign up for this. If FL and NY who are part of the US cannot sign up for it, then something must be up.
I lived in TN as a teen and brought a few non electronic items in the late 80’s early 90’s that I am still using today and did not have a problem with it other than the last few items I brought in the mid 90 to late 90’s came COD and was a wow price for shipping.
Now I live in FL and was wondering why I have not received mail from them. Sounds like I was one of the few lucky ones that did not get burned other than the high shipping cost…which was never seen listed anywhere on any of the paper work I seen.
Thank you, to everyone that tries to help out there fellow man! You have heart & that is always something that is needed in this world about a year ago I got a check in the mail with a letter that said I won this money it was a lot $$$ I called the number on the check to see if it was real it of course was not so I reported the matter to the BBB & of course the bank that day I sent the original letter & check back to the bank BUT I also let the bank know that I was copying the front of the check & the letter to send them to the BBB I received another check about a week latter I called that number knowing that is was bull but the scammers changed the number on the check to a number that they had so again I contacted the BBB & let them know that I had gotten another check & letter that was about the same they were surprised that I got two, They said that had never happened before LOL… always ALWAYS!! Look on line there are awesome people in this world that care & do not want anyone to be ripped off.
Thank you all
Thanks for stopping by to share your story, Kari.
Glad to hear that you were wise to them and their tricks.
hi folks …well i sent in 4 payments ,,,,2 for the laptop, and 2 for the digital camera,,,and know i find out that i have to pay a large shipping fee ..and know i just want to find out how i can get my money back…so if anyone knows can u please let me know ,,thanks
alot 4 ur help.those a-holes…..
I almost laughed out loud when I looked through their crap they sent me in the mail. They wanted me to just hand over my credit card info and just sit and hope that they send me some outdated, overpriced junk?? I’m sorry for those of you that fell for this scam. I googled and found all kinds of complaints which just confirmed my suspicions. Please, if it looks too good to be true, then it is. And never ever buy anything from any business without first googling the company name and “scam” next to it… see what you come up with. And thanks for the blog, you explained everything well–I hope more people read it!
It’s pretty damn pathetic that in this day & age, these CRIMINALS are allowed to blatently RIP PEOPLE OFF and the Government drags their feet or does nothing to stop them. The first clue that these people are a RIP OFF is that they don’t give you any phone number to contact them. I advise the people that did get ripped off by these crooks to travel to their address at 1555 Regal Row in Dallas, Texas and have a little fact to face chat with them (hint hint). Most people work to hard for their money these days to be ripped off by some LAZY PIECE OF CRAP CON ARTIST like this. DON’T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT or they will keep doing it. If everyone files a criminal complaint with the Feds, they will have to act on it. DO IT and lets put these losers in JAIL!!!!!
Thanks for the warning, I almost fell for it.
I even chatted on-line with a representative from Dell who thought it sounded too good to be true. You saved me a lot of grief with the warnings. I have the vouchers and letter on my lap and will be ripping them up. Thank you.
Hi Guys, about 8 years ago I got the vouchers and purchased a set of luggages and I got them in record time, and with no problems. I still have the luggage which I have used so many times already.
Recently I purchaded a laptop on layaway and got it about a week after I sent my last payment. It is still working good, no problems at all.
Thank you. My Aunt recently received one of these vouchers in the mail and was considering it for my Mother’s X-mas gift. As soon as I type the name of the company in Google, I saw this and other sites as well and figured it was the scam I thought it was. Thank you.
Thank You so much for getting the word out! I was about to purchase the laptop and then I found this Web Site and you saved me from spending my X-Mas money on a rip off. This would of riuned X-MAS for my children. So realy you saved X-MAS. So if it’s to good to be true then it is. Thank-You and GOD BLESS.
im just trying to figure out why, after over two years (the first posting was 6/06) is this company still doing this??? my 80 year old father was going to send for one of their products till i stopped him. i told him i just wanted to check them out before he orders anything, and if they check out OK then he can order. thank god i checked. but with all the complaints , why are they still in business?
